Melling Select Performance pumps have hardened steel gears and cast manganese phosphate-coated housings. Race versions include machined grooves to reduce cavitation at high RPM (grooves slightly reduce pressure at idle). Race units with “ST” suffix utilize “Shark Tooth” helical asymmetrical gears for further improved oil flow. Small block Chevy pumps include intermediate shaft.
