In 1938 in the U.S., motorsports personality Wilbur Shaw pointed at one of the pictures of Maserati racing at Roosevelt Raceway in NY and told team owner Michael Boyle: “If I had a car like that, I’d win the next 500 mile race”.
That was a proposition Boyle could not turn down. The 1938 Maserati 8C.T.F. serial number 3032, known as the Boyle Special, became the most successful automobile to compete at the Indianapolis 500®, having won twice in 1939 and 1940. It also finished in 3rd twice and 4th once. To this day the Boyle Special remains unchallenged in its place as the most accomplished single automobile to ever race at the Speedway.
The Racing Spirit Boyle Special Tee is a breathable jersey fabric made from 100% cotton.
